The North Augusta Riverfront Company and LeylandAlliance, in partnership with the City of North Augusta, approached the development of Hammond’s Ferry with patience, attention to detail, and a concerted effort to preserve the natural integrity of the riverfront.
This enlightened approach looks at the community as part of the environment. Ecosystems don’t rearrange themselves around development. Rather, good design uses nature as a centerpiece. It’s a simple concept and one whose time has come.
Concentrating the buildings and dwellings in one area is ecologically efficient; it leaves open space—meaningful open space—around the perimeter. This open space maintains the riverfront’s biological interconnection.
The Southeastern Natural Sciences Academy is a development partner assisting the Hammond’s Ferry team in establishing the correct “healing plan” and ongoing ecological maintenance plan for the sensitive areas within the property.
